Made from the South African “red bush”, Rooibos is a caffeine-free beverage, rich in essential minerals. It is enjoyed in South Africa throughout the day, both hot and chilled. Rooibos has a characteristically mild flavor and a soft, citric sweetness. It is very low in tannins so it does not turn bitter. Try with some honey or on ice (double the leaf amount) with lemon and fresh mint.
Rooibos has been long known for its many medicinal properties: soothing upset stomachs, aiding with digestion, calming nervous tension, and providing relief from allergies such as eczema. Rooibos is an good source of antioxidants, which appear to reduce the risk of certain chronic diseases including cancer. Studies show that Rooibos can promote healthy skin, teeth and bones as well as lower blood pressure and protect against heart disease.
- Use 1 level tsp. per 6 oz. cup;
- Heat fresh, cold water heat fresh water to a roaring boil until steam rises (180º F)
- Let steep for 7-10 min. 2oz makes 20-25 cups of tea.
